Bending
Rattan is the general term to define this material while "giunco" is the italian translation. There are over 100 varietes of rattan, the most used are: Manila, Manau, Malacca, Palasan. The rattan cane is heated over an open flame. The use of the flame allows a total freedom in the design of the objects.

Weaving
The rattan-core is the inside part of the cane, it is obtained in different sizes by the use of a special machine. To be woven the rattan-core must first be soaked in water, so that it can be worked. The natural pale colour means high quality of the raw material. As time goes by the light will give the piece a honey-colour which is a sign of a high quality product.

Bindings
Canes are assembled with screws and nails. The bindings have the double function of reinforcing and covering the head of the nails. Occasionally the bindings can be also a decoration of the furniture itself. The materials used for this purpose are leather, rattan-core and rattan skin.

Colouring
When the item is finished it is also ready to be sold just as it is with no other treatment. Eventually it can be coloured by using water-anilin. This means you can have the piece coloured but still showing the veins of the raw material which is one of its most important characteristics.
